See which UTM links lead to sales with Conversion Bridge

UTM Builder makes your links and counts clicks on your short links, and Google Analytics shows the visits they bring. Conversion Bridge is my other plugin that records the UTM tags behind each sale, sign-up and form entry on your WordPress site. With both active, you can see which links turned into conversions, not only which ones got clicked.

Conversions next to clicks

When Conversion Bridge is active, nothing needs setting up:

  • The Short Links tab gets a Conversions column next to the clicks.
  • Each short link’s Details page shows its conversions next to its clicks.

A conversion counts for a short link when the visitor landed on your site with exactly that link’s five tags, any time since the short link was made.

Tags aren’t unique to one link, so links with the same tags count together. If you made two short links with identical tags, or someone typed those same tags into a link by hand, they all share one total. Giving each link its own utm_content keeps them apart.

One UTM builder, not two

Conversion Bridge has its own small UTM builder. When both plugins are active, UTM Builder’s versions take its place, so you don’t see two of everything:

  • Conversion Bridge’s UTM builder tool is hidden from its Tools tab.
  • Its “UTM link” in the admin bar and under each post is replaced by UTM Builder’s.
  • Links in Conversion Bridge that pointed to its builder open UTM Builder’s Link Builder instead, with the same page filled in.

Which numbers to look at

The click count is how many people followed a short link. The conversion count is how many visitors with that link’s tags went on to buy, sign up or send a form. Google Analytics will show the visits in between. These numbers come from different places and won’t match exactly, which this page explains.
